Editorial Review for Flyte World Dining & Wine – by Jennifer Justus
In Short
At this open industrial space between SoBro and The Gulch, diners can sample both wine and select menu items in flights. Underneath the exposed duct work, walls of brick and painted cinder block in gold and rust keep the ambience warm along with flickering candles on the tables. While barflies might choose a flight of three small salads, soups or desserts, worldly entrees of fish, steak or lamb are also available throughout the restaurant.

I went to the website of Flyte before i came into town to visit my girlfriend. The site says that they offer a $35 Prix Fixe 3 course tasting menu that is availiable to everyone anytime the kitchen is open. Well guess what, the server had not even heard of that. I was then told that the Chef would pick a menu for us to have instead, we took them up on that offer and got some poorly thought out mess on a plate that ended up costing me $110. We got an app that consisted of 1 shrimp each, a salad flyte of three small salads that were not really all that great, and lamb portion that was on a full size plate and only covered about 1/8 of it. We also ordered a wine flyte for each of us and they only brought us one, and it didnt even have the wines listed on the menu with it. I have been taking part in tasting menu's for many years, and this was far from a tasting. I have no desire to return to Flyte or to offer a recomendation for anyone else to go there either. I feel that i got a very bad deal, when i paid $110 for a meal for 2 i should not be hungry when i leave.

From the moment I called the restaurant to arrange a gathering for a large group of people, they were excellent. Last years location ran out of food, so it was important to me to ensure that my guests were well accommodated. We went over location of seating in the restaurant by phone on the initial call. They checked in every week prior to the event to ensure we had sufficient seating and were ok with the items on the limited menu. They serve organic food and offered Vegan options for my vegetarian guests. Being raised by a Sous Chef, I'm extremely critical of food and service in restaurants. My Australlian Fillet was great. It was both well seasoned and well cooked. My favorite drink was The Scarlett Letter and the waiter's recommendation of the German Riesling was quite popular. I left a couple of times to walk several guests to their car and my server took my food to ensure it didn't get cold. Who does that in casual fine dining restaurants?! When management heard that a couple of people were unhappy, they called to ask what could be done better going forward. It means a lot to know that i'm not just a sales number to the restaurant or that opinions go in one ear and out the other. A little pricey for every week, but Flyte will be top of my list for special events and intimate dates. I recommend the room with kitchen view for any party of 15-25 if you go.
Pros: The service and group seating
Cons: Autumn harvest dish
